Tulsa sits amid naturally forested rolling hills in what's known as "Green Country." Once called the “Oil Capitol of the World,” the the city's economy has diversified, and redefined itself as the cultural and arts center of the region. It has two renowned art museums, full-time professional opera and ballet companies, and 15 institutions of higher education. Small wonder Tulsa is such a magnet for gay folk from all around these parts. The city has a thriving gay community of bars, shops, and restaurants. Tulsa Pride takes place the first week of June each year.

 

Getting here

Tulsa International Airport is the city’s main gateway. It’s about 10 miles from downtown. Taxis are the best way to get to your hotel, but Tulsa Transit (route 203) has bus service to their main Denver Avenue Station (319 S. Denver), and also to the Memorial Midtown Station (on 33rd).

 

Getting around

On the Tulsa Transit interactive website you can find out if the public transportation system can provide what you need to get around. If not you'll likely need a car to get around this sprawling city, more so to explore the surrounding countryside.
