Primarily concerned with deconstructing colonial notions of works like Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, it also plays into Cronenberg’s fascination with repression, misogyny, and the transformation of the flesh.
October 18, 2020, 8pm. In 1770, the painter Marianne agrees to paint the wedding portrait of Heloise, a young woman who just left a convent. Heloise is resisting her fate as a wife by refusing to pose - so Marianne will have to paint her in secret. Introduced as a lady companion, she spends a lot of time watching her subject, and then a relationship between them begins to grow.

Kidnapped after false promises of wealth, Tania remembers a gradual loss of identity.
