June 24-27, 2017. Celebrations in Salvador and many more towns throughout Bahia celebrating the nativity of St John the Baptist. Brazilian celebrations follow from European Midsummer Solstice festivities that predate Christianity. Here they begin the Brazilian winter to continue throughout the whole month of June with parades, fireworks, bonfires, concerts, folk dancing and costumes.
