June 17-25, 2019. Celebrations in Pelourinho, Salvador and more towns throughout Bahia celebrating the birth of St John the Baptist. The celebrations follow from Midsummer Solstice festivities that predate Christianity. Here they begin the Brazilian winter to continue throughout most of the month of June, with parades, fireworks, bonfires, concerts, folk dancing and costumed parades.
