Traditionally celebrated after spring sowing, when ancient Finns celebrated the feast of Ukko, the pagan god of weather, fertility, and growth. The date roughly coincides with the June 20th Summer Solstice/ longest day, when the sun rises just before 4am and sets just before 11pm. Seurasaari Museum has one of the largest of the many bonfires that burn 4 pm-1am.
June 28 - July 4, 2021. A week of lectures, discussions, picnics, workshops, art, culture, party dancing late into the night. Events include Youth Pride, for 13-25 year-olds. The Saturday Pride parade starts at Senaatintori Square and the party continues at the park, as does the closing party. The Queer International English-language LGBTIQ group meets at HeSeta 1st Mondays, 6pm.
November 26-28, 2021 (TBC). Three-day Finnish film festival screening LGBTI films; stories of sexual and gender minorities. Selected films deal with the diversity of sexual orientation and gender: documentaries, short films, comedies and dramas for quality movie lovers at Cinema ORION, Eerikinkatu 15. FB
