Once called the “Oil Capitol of the World,” the the city's economy has diversified, and redefined itself as the cultural and arts center of the region. It has two renowned art museums, full-time professional opera and ballet companies, and 15 institutions of higher education. Some of the nation's best and most numerous examples of art deco architecture can be seen here.
Small wonder Tulsa is such a magnet for gay folk from all around these parts. The city has a thriving gay community of bars, shops, and restaurants.
