November 21-24, 2020. Four days of mind-bending, boundary-pushing, artistically adventurous animation in the heart of Calgary! GIRAF celebrates the spirit of independent, underground, and experimental animation, showcasing Canadian animators and presenting diverse animations from around the globe.
Early April, 2021, 3 days at The Grand, U of Calgary, and CSIF. International celebration of creative story-telling on celluloid includes commission projects + partnerships. In 1992 the festival showcased 8 short films on Super 8; 4 rolls of Super 8 cost $100. Later budgetary limits were dropped and 16 mm film allowed, shifting the focus from low budget to quality small-format films.
April, 2021. The best in international independent cinema, Western Canada’s premiere genre festival. One of Calgary’s most anticipated film events w/ seven days of screenings. Contemporary works in various categories include: feature, documentary, animation and shorts. A unique roster of films rarely seen in North American theatres.
May, 2021. Ten day film festival. Enjoy a diverse section of queer-centric movies, documentaries, short films, panel discussions, and more events! The Calgary Queer Arts Society, formerly known as Fairy Tales Presentation Society, a nonprofit organization in Calgary, Alberta, exists to give voice to queer people and their stories.
May, 2021. Western Canada’s largest bear weekend! The Fellowship of Alberta Bears invites Bears, cubs, otters, and gentlemen of all shapes and sizes to converge on Calgary for an annual weekend of culture, events + parties. Traditional rodeo: bull riding, steer riding, barrel racing, roping; camp events, goat dressing, Wild Drag dancing + cabaret. Music festival, women’s night, pop, blues and rock, + local country artists. CRGRA also participates in local Pride Festivals.

Add fire, lasers, light and music for science’s biggest garden party with installations, hands-on experiences and stage performances across Calgary.
