August 21-29, 2021. The city's major annual fiesta time, 8 days, lots of noise, music, strongman games, bullfights, street theater and cultural events, with bullfights, boxing matches, traditional dance performances and fireworks displays after dark from Plaza del Gas & Parque Etxebarria, plus the unusual Concurso de Feos, or "Ugly Competition."
October, 2021 (TBC), eight days of screenings at Arriaga Theatre and other venues. Past year included 70+ films from 30+ countries: documentaries, fiction and animation, including Spain, France, Germany and the United States, along with a number of Basque films. See their website for details.
February, 2022. Carnival (Aratusteak, in Basque) season begins with the trial of Farolín and Zarambolas, and ends with the burning of the sardine. Parades, costume competitions, concerts, games, workshops, processions and dances take place during these six days
Early March, 2022 (TBC). Two-week international film/ performing arts festival at over 10 venues, all films with a G/L and/or transgender theme, shot on video or 35mm recently and never released theatrically within the Basque Country may compete in Zinegoak. Feature-length fiction, feature-length documentary films, and short films (fiction or documentary films (45 minutes or less).
